Spectral Dialogue in Nyhavn

  • Philip J. Davis

Abstract

It happened the next night at a late hour. Lucas, quite tired out from considerable travel on the buses of Copenhagen, sat at the desk in the Andersen room of his flat and looked out the window over the canal. Thomas Gray was on a lovely wooden fan-back chair of recent design. The seat was so large that she was able to stretch out to her fullest and do a rollover. Across the water, the red neon sign spelled out the letters HAFRUEN. One letter was missing. It should have been HAVFRUEN—“The Mermaid” in Danish—the name of a fish restaurant with French aspirations.
