System Selection

The selection of an information system falls into one of two categories: difficult and even more difficult. Part of the difficulty is engaging the organization in the process of selecting and implementing an information system. The initial steps involve developing the idea for an information system, getting sufficient buy-in or support from the executive team to agree to the system, and appointing a selection team. If you are working on an implementation, the authors assume that the idea has been developed and there is sufficient support. This chapter begins with appointing a selection team, along with an executive steering oversight committee, and continues with contract negotiation, and then ends with forming the project team.
