Towards a New Balance in Our Landscapes
Chapter
Abstract
WHEN I think of landscapes, I think of places where people can feel completeness and unity with nature, where they can relax, enjoy the smell of flowers, and the sight of birds and butterflies. Natural landscapes are more pleasant than man-made ones: compare the difference between a canal and a river. Landscapes are not always pleasant, they can be very frightening as well. Even deserts or steep rocks have a fascination for certain people. A beach can be attractive, but when it is raining and stormy a wood is a much nicer place to be.
