Protecting Infants through Human Milk

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 554))

Abstract

The question of whether breastfeeding and formula feeding have differential effects on cognitive development has not been comprehensively answered in term infants (Drane & Logemann 2000). This has been due to lack of sample size resulting in inadequate statistical power and failure to obtain prospective data on a wide range of variables in¬cluding infant feeding, the relevant covariates, and validated tests of cognitive outcomes later in childhood.
