Fibrinoid and Calcification

  • Chapter
Pathology of the Human Placenta

Abstract

Fibrinoid has always played a remarkable role in the] literature of placental pathology. It is one of the most] prominent substances when studying the placenta microscopically or even in its macroscopic parameters. Fibrin is prominently involved in pathological processes, such as intervillous thrombosis and placental infarction, its quantity steadily increasing throughout pregnancy. Although the pathogenetic mechanism and diagnostic value of fibrinoid are still under discussion, it is one of the most frequently mentioned “histopathological” findings and is t therefore worthy of discussion in a special chapter.
