Principles of Optics for Passive Components
In a fiber optic communication system, many different optical components are used. In previous chapters, we discussed active components, which are used for three purposes:
converting electrical signals to optical signals;
amplifying optical signals transmitted in the fiber;
converting optical signals back to electrical signals.
