Abstract
Computer-based education (CBE) and computer-assisted learning (CAL) are interchangeable terms that refer to computers as an instructional medium (Ball and Hannah, 1984). Both include computer-assisted instruction (CAI) and computer-managed instruction (CMI). While CAI is used to assist students in the teaching/learning process, CMI is used to manage components of instruction such as student testing, student rotations, use of instructional materials, and course scheduling. This chapter will focus primarily on computer-assisted instruction and its usefulness in nursing education.
