Organizational Transformation: Responding to Technological Innovation
Information technology forces organizations to consider their structures because it heightens concerns about structural impediments to information flow and access. In many instances, hospitals commit to an infusion of information technology in anticipation of the benefits of better and more efficient care and administration. However, information technology is costly and constantly changing. To realize its benefits, hospitals must also commit to major and continuous change and to the associated investment of energy in creating and sustaining a new and flexible organizational climate focused on the relationship between information and the outcome goals for patient care and the organization.
