The relation of conjugacy was introduced in Chapter 12 and shown to be an equivalence relation. We recall the definition. Given elements x,y of a group G we say that x is conjugate to y if gxg −1 = y for some gG. The equivalence classes are called conjugacy classes, and we begin by working out these classes for some specific groups.
