Abstract
Obesity is one of the most common health problems faced by family physicians. A study of more than 500,000 office visits by Marsland et al.1 found that obesity was the ninth highest ranking entity among 574 conditions that precipitated medical visits. There is little understanding of why people eat too much, but it is probably multifactorial, including inheritance and environmental and behavioral aspects.
