Abstract
This chapter focuses on illness and injury caused by physical agents in the environment, such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, ionizing and nonionizing radiation, inhalation injury, and noise. Physical hazards in the environment are an important source of both occupational and nonoccupational illness and injury. The family physician must play a pivotal role in primary prevention, which is the cornerstone of the management of these occupational and environmental problems.
