Abstract

Nowhere in the broad scope of medical practice is the physician’s mettle tested more severely than in the area of critical care. With the patient’s life literally riding on each decision, the need for rapid and accurate diagnosis, followed by a carefully constructed therapeutic plan that must be meticulously carried out, cannot be too highly emphasized. Each facet of the physician’s clinical acumen meshes with the comprehensive knowledge of the patient’s circumstances and past medical history in the total effort required to reverse system failures.
