Human Sexuality

  • E. Frank Ciliberto

Over the past 30 years there has been a change in the attitude and behavior of society concerning sexuality, commonly called a sexual revolution. With the changing attitude toward sexuality, censorship has become more liberalized. Books, motion pictures, and television bring mass audiences new information concerning sexual attitudes and behavior. The threat of pregnancy has been minimized by the development of contraceptive pills, intrauterine devices, and the popularization of surgical sterilization. The sexual revolution coincided with the “Women’s Lib Movement,” which announced that women were not content to play a subordinate role in the family and that the sexual rights of women must be considered. The virtues of fidelity and of marriage itself have been challenged, as evidenced by the stark divorce rates.
