The Health Care Team

  • Chapter
Family Medicine

Abstract

In our health care system today every practicing physician is a member of a health care team, since he is supported by and dependent upon many other health care workers. Teamwork is essential if the family physician is to provide comprehensive medical care to his patients. Poorly operating teams will sharply limit his ability to practice effectively. Despite the pervasive functioning of teams throughout the delivery system, until recently most physicians received little training in team composition, structure, or operations.
