Abstract
Before attempting to give an account of ideas and problems relating on the one hand to the neuronal mechanisms of the brain and on the other to conscious experience, it is essential to give a brief and very elementary account of some properties of the nervous system in order to provide a simple structural and functional basis for these accounts.
