Abstract

The changes in chemical composition were first noticed when studying shock compression products [5.1]: MgCO3 → MgO, Pb (NO3)2 → PbO2, CuSO4 → CuO. Further Nickolls et al. [5.2] reported the decomposition of iron oxide under shock compression: Fe2O3 → Fe3O4.
