Abstract
Adrenalectomy (L. ad, near; L. ren, kidney; and Gk. ektomē, excision) is the term used to denote the surgical removal of one or both adrenal glands.1 Removal of both of these glands causes severe physiologic changes which are often difficult to correct with replacement therapy. In clinical practice, therefore, bilateral adrenalectomy is rarely used except in cases of adrenal neoplasia.
