Abstract
The notion of the formal protein (FP) abstracts the biophysical principle of free energy dependence from the spatial conformation of a protein. The notion of the FP unites two main ideas:
-
1.
The algebraic description of a protein’s chain geometry by means of quaternions;
-
2.
The definition of free energy as a function over elements of quaternions.
