Dendritic pattern formation at the interface between liquid and solid is a commonly observed phenomenon in crystal growth and solidification process. Fig. 1.1 shows a snow flake, which describes a typical case of dendrite growth (Kobayashi and Furukawa, 1991, Takahashi et al, 1995).
