Abstract
In a 1992 book on “second generation” PACS, Michel Osteaux writes: The absence of recognized standards such as image format and transfer protocol and physical interface has been identified as one major problem with the first PACS realizations. Substantial efforts have been made and significant results achieved.... However, the level of real implementation by the manufacturers upon the acquisition modalities is still rather low.” (Osteaux, 1992)
