As the telecommunication technology continues to develop and support an increasing range of services, the management of this technology and the way it integrates into the network operator’s infrastructure will become critical to the success of using such systems. The management requirements of these networks, therefore, need to be analyzed and well understood in order to identify the most optimal solutions. A major step towards this direction has been the development of Telecommunications Management Network (TWIN) standards by ITU-T (formerly known as CCITT) [58], [60]. This TMN standardization process has resulted in the identification of informational, architectural, and functional requirements for the management of telecommunication networks. These network management requirements have been classified into the following main categories:
  • Fault Management

  • Configuration Management

  • Accounting Management

  • Performance Management

  • Security Management
