Abstract
The distribution of displacement and stress fields throughout a generally loaded structure is very complicated and only computational methods can give effective solutions. The key to the finite element method is discretizing the structure into a collection of small regions that are easier to handle. Figure 2.1 shows some examples of thin-walled structures modeled as a collection of many triangular subregions. This chapter considers the formulation of these triangular elements.
