Abstract
Many researchers deal with data that can be viewed as a series of trials, each with two possible outcomes. We will arbitrarily label the two alternative possible outcomes of a trial as success and failure. In a quality control chart, consecutive points may be in or out of a warning zone. After a period of learning, a subject may correctly or incorrectly perform a series of cognitive tasks. A sports team wins and loses games over a season. In a stream of items sampled from an assembly line some are defective, some acceptable.
