Comparing Model and Data
The use of inferential statistics to answer experimenters’ questions requires the comparison of a statistical model with data from an experiment. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the important statistical approaches to this task. However, an appreciation of the statistical bases is more easily gained if thought is first given to the way in which the problem might be approached without the benefit of statistics.
