Abstract

According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program population-based registries, the age-adjusted colorectal cancer incidence rates have declined from a peak of 63 per 100,000 population in 1985 to 50 per 100,000 in 1995 (1). During 2000, there were approximately 130,000 newly diagnosed patients with colorectal cancer in the United States, and about 15–25% were estimated to have synchronous liver metastases (2,3).
