Abstract
Children and adolescents who live in rural areas anywhere in the world will experience different cultures, health risks, and health care delivery systems than will those who live in metropolitan or urban areas. Throughout the world there are geographic barriers to child health services and this is reflected in healthrelated statistics. The intention of this chapter is to review information about the health of children and adolescents who live in rural areas of the United States, compare the health status of these children with those who live in urban areas, and make recommendations for improvement of health care of rural children.
