In the past two decades efforts in controlling breast cancer (BC) in developed and developing countries have faced a dramatic increase of incidence. It is currently the most frequent cancer, and one of the main causes of premature loss of life in women throughout the developed world1 (Fig. 1). In the near 2000 the expected number of new cases of BC could be about 1.3 million.
