Abstract

For years, most pediatric catheterizations were performed using the umbilical or femoral vessels. Over the last several years use of the subclavian, internal jugular and hepatic veins has become more common, not only as backups for the femoral vein, but as the preferred site for some procedures. Though uncommonly used, the axillary and carotid arteries provide alternatives to the femoral artery.
