Abstract
The ability to deliver agent directly into the arterial wall holds great promise for the treatment of coronary arterial and peripheral vascular disorders. The initial focus of catheter-based drug delivery has been the delivery of classic pharmaceutical agents in the setting of angioplasty to prevent acute complications and late restenosis. More recently preclinical studies have focused on the delivery of novel agents (e.g., adenoviral vectors) to prevent restenosis and to promote angiogenesis.1
