Abstract
Endovascular stent grafts are rapidly becoming a viable alternative to open repair of many abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). Therefore the development of accurate noninvasive methods for preoperative and postoperative evaluation of patients is important. Spiral computed axial tomography (spiral CT) is one alternative. Other alternatives include vascular ultrasonography and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Vascular ultrasonography is operator-dependent, and a complete preoperative examination is difficult and time-consuming. Even postoperative evaluation can be difficult because of the presence of intervening bowel gas. MR scanners and pulse sequences are improving daily but as yet do not yield as consistent results as does spiral CT.
