Abstract
The frequency synthesizer is one of the most fundamental cells in a telecommunications transceiver. Its role is to produce the necessary periodic signals for frequency up-conversion in the transmitter and down-conversion in the receiver. The location of the frequency synthesizer in a typical transceiver is depicted in the schematic of Fig. 7.1.
