Hematuria in patients sustaining blunt or penetrating trauma must be fully evaluated after cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation has been initiated. Hematuria may be gross or microscopic (greater than 5 RBC/HPF) in nature. Differential diagnosis includes renal injury, ureteral injury, bladder rupture or urethral rupture.
