The first EA based algorithms for VLSI CAD that were of practical interest were presented in the late 80s and early 90s. In this chapter different CAD of IC application are considered, i.e. applications from logic synthesis, mapping, testing and EA based solutions are given. Several selected papers are reviewed, then extensions of these approaches are outlined. For each area, the detailed problem definition is given and the main characteristics of the algorithms are presented. Especially the performance evaluation methods are considered, since they are crucial for an EA approach in order to make an impact. The selection of papers is not complete in the sense that all approaches presented so far are considered. Instead alternative techniques give insight in the minimization principles of EAs.
