Abstract

For TF signal analysis, two fundamental types of TF signal representations can be distingushed, namely, the “energetic” type and the “correlative” type [Hlawatsch, 1991]. The energetic mode of TF analysis seeks to define “TF energy distributions” that satisfy the marginal properties (1.6)-(1.8) or, more generally, give an indication of how the signal is distributed over the TF plane. Two prominent energetic TF distributions are the WD and the spectrogram.
