Abstract
Parabolic antennas are a particular case of the axially-aymmetric systems described in CHapter 9. Here, we give a simplified theory of their operation.
The antenna used to broadcast the BBC’s Radio 4 transmission on 198 kHz, from Droitwich, just to the south of Birmingham, England. Despite the enormous physical size of this antenna (some 200 m high), compared to the wavelength it is a ‘small antenna’ (photo: H. Griffiths).
