Abstract
In this chapter we meld together locally trivial bundles and group actions to arrive at the notion of a C ° (continuous) principal bundle (smoothness hypotheses are added in Chapter 4) . The source of our interest in these structures was discussed at some length in Chapter 0, where we also sug-gested that principal bundles over spheres were of particular significance. Our goal here is to use the homotopy-theoretic information assembled in Chapter 2 to classify the principal bundles over S n .
