Abstract

Sexual health is a fundamental component of total health. Despite this, sexual concerns of individuals with neurologic disability are often overshadowed by other aspects of medical rehabilitation. As a result, sexuality tends not to be addressed during acute rehabilitation and patients do not know where to turn with their questions about sexual functioning. Health care professionals often avoid initiating discussion of sexual issues, either because they question whether it is appropriate within their discipline or they feel unqualified.
