Abstract
In this chapter we review the most popular lossy video compression schemes. There have been several excellent reviews published in the past [133, 85, 125, 52, 101] and this review is strongly influenced by these publications. In addition to these publications there exist many different books which contain introductory reviews of this subject [202, 212, 15]. Whenever appropriate, we point out where the contributions of this dissertation fit into the establish body of knowledge.
