Abstract

In this chapter we provide some motivation of why video compression is an important problem. We also take a conceptual look at how motion compensated video compression schemes work and we point out some of the shortcomings of traditional approaches. We then introduce the basic idea behind the proposed video compression scheme and give an overview of the monograph.
