Affinity Chromatography for Recombinant Proteins

  • Chapter
Book cover Biofunctional Membranes

Abstract

The emergence of biotechnology has provided unique opportunities for the design and high level production of a variety of biomolecules, including recombinant proteins and peptides. Recombinant proteins/peptides with potential therapeutic value are being rapidly developed by the pharmaceutical industry. The purification of these therapeutic proteins must be performed under the most stringent conditions in order to achieve the homogeneity, purity and potency required by Federal regulations. Thus, comes the need for expanding the repertoire of conventional bioseparation techniques with novel methods of purification.
