Abstract

Several previous reviews of the consultation outcome research literature that have been published will not be discussed here (see Mannino & Shore, 1975; Medway, 1979, 1982; Medway & Updyke, 1985; Sibley, 1986). In addition, various methodological and conceptual issues in research on consultation have been discussed in detail (see Bergan & Kratochwill, 1990; Kratochwill et al., 1988). The research on teacher and parent training is also relevant to the consultation outcome literature, but is not discussed here. Recently, empirical studies in the area of CBC have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the model for various target problems. Some preliminary research has also been conducted assessing the communication processes that have been identified in successful conjoint consultation cases. Likewise, one study evaluated a national sample of school psychologists’ reported acceptability of the model. These studies are reviewed in this chapter.
