Abstract

Integrating computers into the practice of nursing is a challenge. As we embark on this new challenge, we need to realize that nothing in life is easy. Change always elicits some fear, because it holds the unknown and unfamiliar. We prefer to look at the partially filled glass of water as half full rather than half empty. We are in for great excitement and opportunities in the nursing profession as we move toward the twenty-first century. Consider briefly the forces that are impacting nursing, both external and internal. We can then look at the new tools information technology is putting within our reach and see how those tools will help us to address those forces.
