Abstract

In the current technological environment, a healthcare organization can and should work with vendors of information technology. Planning is key to producing a climate conducive to the successful integration of products. The management of the information resources department must be aware of the pitfalls to be avoided or overcome. Also, the steps involving the review of product offerings, the selection process, procurement procedures, site visits, demonstrations, contract negotiations, and final award must be handled in a professional manner. Faced with a plethora of vendors and products, the information systems manager has to choose wisely in order to meet the needs of the organization and to achieve the integrated information solution at the least cost and with the greatest benefit.
