The Qalkhan Occupations

Qalkhan assemblages, found at four sites within the Jebel Qalkha study area (Figure 9.1), constitute a newly defined industry that appears to be the earliest within the Epipaleolithic succession of southern Jordan. Based upon stratigraphic evidence from two of these sites and technotypologic correlations with radiocarbon dated horizons from sites in the Azraq Basin of northeastern Jordan, the Qalkhan would appear to date to within an interval stretching from ca. 20,000–15,000 B.P.
