Abstract
Investigators are drawn to AIDS research because they are concerned about the AIDS epidemic. We often have a special sense of immediacy about the problem because we know and love people with AIDS. Many people who are doing research on AIDS are themselves infected with HIV or belong to a community that has been disproportionately affected by the epidemic.
