Abstract
The title of this chapter, “dependence,” reflects our continuing emphasis on the alternative rather than on the null hypothesis. As you discover anew in this chapter, the permutation test is invaluable whether you wish to focus on one or two specific hypotheses of dependence or provide protection against a broad spectrum of alternatives.
