Abstract
Chapter 8 outlines a methodology for developing the architectures discussed in Chapters 4 through 7. This methodology assumes that a hospital is in Era III for its information systems management, and is high-high on the strategic grid (Figure 8.1). The reader will recall that Era III is marked by a balance among IS, end users, and top executives in the management of information technology. Most hospitals are located in the high-high quadrant of the strategic grid, depending heavily on information systems support of product delivery and marketing. There may be some hospitals that are not high-high on the strategic grid. Such hospitals might include small single-provider rural hospitals.
