Abstract
Biological and mathematical aspects of fruit fly demography are summarized in the book chapters by Carey (1986, 1989a). The purpose of the current paper is to summarize three aspects of fruit fly demography and biology that were not included in these publications and have received only limited attention in the fruit fly literature. These include: i) cause of death analysis using the multiple decrement life table; ii) demographic framework for fruit fly parasitoid mass rearing; and iii) general concepts in fruit fly invasion biology.
