Abstract
The human body is composed of four primary groups of tissues: (1) epithelial tissues are characterized by having cells closely joined one to another and found on free surfaces of the body; (2) muscle tissues are characterized by the high degree of contractility of their cells or fibers—their primary function is to move the skeleton; (3) nervous tissues are composed of cells specialized in the properties of irritability and conductility; and (4) connective tissues are those in which the cells are separated by large amounts of extracellular materials.
