Abstract

Life in Israel is life in the shadow of war. Our population is small, our ties are close, and our wars affect everyone—not only the men who fight them. I grew up in a family whose orientation was not military. My father was the only man in the family, and he had two daughters. Neither my husband nor his father or two brothers chose a military career. Yet despite all this, I have vivid memories of five wars.
